Careful Scuttle (Ex) As a move action, a brigatak can move up to 10 feet without provoking attacks of opportunity. |
Pincer Grab (Ex) When a brigatak’s claw attack equals or exceeds a target’s KAC +4, it automatically grapples the opponent. The brigatak can, as a move action, firmly pinch and then release a grappled target. The target is no longer grappled but takes 1 bleed damage, as though affected by a weapon with the bleed critical hit effect. This bleed damage increases to 1d4 at 4th level and to 1d8 at 7th level. |
Shell Storage (Ex) The flat surface of a companion brigatak’s shell is often outfitted with straps or netting to hold objects. A brigatak can carry items totaling up to 1 bulk. |
Brigataks are crustaceans with twelve legs, three large razor-sharp pincers, and hard shells with a flat top that match their surroundings, most commonly in hues of yellow or green. They are found on dozens of planets throughout the galaxy, leading to arguments among xenobiologists as to whether they were spread by some other species, intentionally or not, or they are simply an example of parallel evolution.
Brigataks are comfortable both underwater and on land, and they typically live in large colonies. They aren’t usually aggressive, despite their large pincers, and they quickly take to other creatures who supply them with food. They are particularly popular as pets among aquatic and amphibious species. They are happiest with regular access to water, and many who adopt brigataks build elaborate artificial ponds or large aquariums complete with both food and structures to play in.
Their shells change color gradually over time based on their diet and surroundings, and some owners deliberately try to encourage specific color schemes.
